Bringing Theory to Practice was featured in the American Council on Education's blog, Higher Education Today, for its work on the well-being and flourishing of students.
Ellen Bara Stolzenberg, Assistant Director of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) at the Higher Education Research Institute, details the mental and physical well-being of incoming freshmen by exploring trends found in the CIRP's The Freshman Survey. Comparing data from 1985 to 2015, she measures self-reported perceptions of physical and emotional health by race, ethnicity, and gender. Noting declines in emotional health, as well as disparities between racial and gender groups, she suggests, "colleges and universities should consider implementing campus climate assessments to determine which campus populations may need more support or services in order to see an increase in emotional health."
