School of the Art Institute Chicago: Psychosocial Well-Being Initiative Grant

Psychosocial Well-Being Initiative Grant

The SAIC Flourishing Through Work initiative connected engaged learning to psychosocialvwell-being for a select group of freshmen with Federal Work Study eligibility and offered on-campus employment with departments across campus. These work opportunities provided the students with direct engagement with the SAIC community as well as income and mentorship. A cohort of 23 students was selected based on demonstrated financial hardship as calculated through the federal assessment process. Two faculty advisors were hired, Lee Blalock and Rosalynn Gingerich; both of whom had experience teaching Freshmen and were responsible for providing mentorship, facilitating round table discussions, holding one-on-one meetings and leading final critiques. The critiques were treated as a culminating analysis and assessment of student outcomes

Primary Investigators: Felice Dublon, Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs, and Vicki Engonopoulos, Co-Director of the Career + Cooperative Education Center
